Hello and Welcome!

Hello! Thank you for checking out the blog portion of my website! I am so excited to use this blog as a way to share tips, tricks and ideas with others. My approach to therapy is to make it as fun and functional as possible for not only the children I am working with but also parents! I strongly believe that empowering parents to be actively involved in helping their child develop communication is an essential part of what I do. Parents and even siblings can be the best teachers and playmates for a child with speech and language delays.

I brag all the time that I have the best job ever because I get to have fun and play with kids all day! I want to help parents learn how to incorporate speech and language practice into their everyday lives and realize the influence they have in helping their child communicate. When we are having fun, our children will also have fun and communication happens naturally. This is why I focus on using a play-based approach in my therapy. Play is so essential to learning and development. One of my favourite quotes that emphasizes the importance of play is from Mr. Rogers:

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning.

But for children play is serious learning.

Play is really the work of childhood.”

-       Fred Rogers

The main focus of this blog will be to share tips, tricks and strategies for parents/guardians/other professionals/etc. to work on speech and language skills in a fun and meaningful way. I also hope to shed some light on how speech and language practice can happen anywhere and with any materials you may have in your home. Parents (and other adults in your child’s life) have an integral role in fostering their child’s communication development. I hope to provide ample examples and information on how to go about doing this.

I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge and passion with readers. Please reach out if you have any questions or would like specific information on a topic.
